About Us
Warrington Town Netball Club, formerly Thames Board,
was formed over 45 years ago with barely enough players to field a team. Today, the Club boasts a squad
of 5 senior teams and over 40 members competing in the Warrington District Netball League, Cheshire
Elite league and North West Regional League
The club has enjoyed a considerable amount of success over the years, with many winner and runner-up positions whilst competing in the Warrington District Netball League, plus success in various tournaments. We have players of varying age and skill levels, some who have played for Cheshire County in the past, and some of our younger members who are just embarking on their County experience
We have a core of players who have been with the club for many years, breaking to have families but always returning. Quite a few of their children are now playing for our junior teams and are our players of the future!
For a number of years, the club has entered a National Tournament held at Pontin’s Holiday Camp, Prestatyn in North Wales. It has become a haven for Netball players from all over the country over a period of three weekends in September. Our first team have reached the final in the Winners Cup on a few occasions and actually won this competition in 2000! We have also had success in the ’Plate Competition’ again taking 1st place in 2007
Our most prestigious award was in January 1994. Warrington Parr Hall hosted the first ever ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ awards, and Warrington Town Netball Club were nominated. It was a great evening, we all had a fabulous time and to finish the night on a real high, we were very surprised, but extremely proud to be announced winners of the ‘Team Personality of the Year’ This is our claim to fame!
The club continues to grow, and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking our members for their loyalty and commitment over the years, as without them we would not be as successful and as strong as we are today. In July 2007 we launched our junior club, this too has continued to grow and we now have over 100 members. Again this success is down to current senior members who have willingly given up their time to take coaching awards, and pass on their knowledge and skills to our juniors
